It takes a a very special person to not only work at a children’s hospital, but also, to show compassion and kindness for all that they do. The doctors, nurses, anesthesiologists, child life specialists, respiratory therapists, volunteers, clerks, janitorial staff, cooks, etc. at SickKids, have all shown kindness towards me and have made me feel at home in the hospital. After being a patient at SickKids since September 2019, I’ve gotten to know many people that have made such an affect on my life and that I will forever remember and be grateful for meeting.

Whenever I walk into Sickkids, usually to pre-op or my usual floor, I am immediately greeted by all the friendly faces of nurses and clerks. It always makes me feel welcome and excited to talk to all of them! Many people often assume I would hate being in the hospital so often, but its quite the opposite. Sickkids has truly become a second home for me and I have so many great memories I’ve made with the people there. All throughout the day I’m always talking to someone and learning something new. Honestly I could just sit there all day and chat with all the nurses and doctors. I love listening to all their travels and funny stories that they share. Last time I was in the hospital I had to work on a big science project on a medical condition for online school and the teacher said we could use ANY resources. Well, I was in the perfect spot for that! My nurse was running all around the floor for information and one of my doctors even took the time to send me an email with loads of help! Needless to say, I got 100% on the project 😆

The janitorial staff at SickKids is the absolute sweetest. Everyday they come in to clean my room and bring me my lunch. Even when they are just passing my room, they always pop in to say hello and ask how my day is going.

When I go into the operating room, I’m hardly ever nervous because I have complete trust in the people around me. I usually have the same nurses and anesthesiologists for surgery, so as they get ready for my surgery they always ask me questions like “how my dog is doing?” or “how my specific hometown is?” (its amazing how they remember conversations and details about my life that I’ve told them in the past). Also, I have complete faith in my doctors because they have stuck by my side through it all and shown me so much care. I truly couldn’t ask for better doctors and I honestly wouldn’t be where I am today without them.

As you can see, everyone at SickKids are just incredible people that continue to make a difference. I could go on and on about every little detail and memory but that would probably end up being hundreds of pages long! They may not know it, but each and everyone of them have impacted my life in so many different ways. They make me forget about any of the pain and sadness; and instead, replace them with happy memories that I will forever remember. Thank you to each and every person/staff at SickKids that has made my life even better. I appreciate you so much and I truly have no idea what I would do without you.
