My Thoughts on COVID-19

Can you believe it’s already been over a year since we found out about the deadly virus called COVID-19. It all happened so fast and was so unexpected. First I saw it on the news and before I knew it, people were getting infected, we had to wear masks and were being advised to stay home. Going into this blog post, I understand that everyone has a different opinion on COVID-19. Some people take it seriously, whereas some don’t and thats your decision to make. I’m just here to share my point of view as someone who has been in the hospital often and have gotten to see a few things firsthand.

I know some of you reading my blog are from different countries, so depending on where you are in the world, COVID restrictions may be different. But here in Canada, we are currently under another lockdown. Although this whole lockdown situation may suck, I think it is very important to take a step back and appreciate/ be grateful for the things we do have instead of worrying about the things we don’t. I am just grateful to be alive, have a roof over my head, food to eat, and people that care for me. Think of the positives, thank goodness for FaceTime and messages so that we can still stay in contact and talk to family and friends! Because if staying at home and wearing a mask is what we need to do in order to keep our loved ones safe, then that is what I feel inclined to do as well.

In September of 2019, while most of my friends were preparing for social events and their first year of high school, I was at home starting online school independently. Covid-19 prolonged my online schooling, since my surgery was cancelled March 2020, and therefore started Grade 10 the same way, but this time with a teacher. Not much of an adjustment for me since i was already doing it a year prior.

Since I have tracheostomy and a lot of respiratory difficulties, I am at a larger risk if I were to come in contact with COVID, so I understand the importance of the safety guidelines. As most of you know, I’ve spent a large amount of time throughout lockdown at the hospital, therefore I’ve gotten to see first hand how hard health care workers are working during this pandemic. They are giving their everything to save the lives of others and are encouraging everyone to stay home and wear a mask. To all the people who think this virus is just some joke and don’t take this seriously, when you get the virus who do you think will be the ones helping you? It will be all the incredible doctors and nurses who gave you guidelines you chose not to follow. It’s devastating how many lives COVID has taken.

I don’t complain a lot about lockdown because being in the hospital month after month I’ve met some young kids and patients that have been in the hospital their whole lives. I’ve learned very fast the importance of life when I was on the brink of it. So a lot of people who aren’t exposed to the virus need to understand that it could be a lot worse and it’s important to stick to the safety guidelines in hopes that one day everything can go back to normal; or as close to normal as we can get.

Don’t just stay home or wear a mask for yourself, do it for your family, friends, loved ones, the front-line workers, the people in the hospital now, and for the safety of everyone.

Stay Safe ❤ – Zoe xo

  2. I really thought it would only last maximum a year and had a lot of hope for the pandemic to be over by now. But that is definitely not the case. In fact, the numbers are increasing and it is looking very bad. I still hope this ends soon but if we look at the reality, I don’t think so but we can surely remain positive. I love how strong you are and the strength you have to keep a smile is amazing.
